Guerin Catholic Athletics is proud to announce this year’s recipients of the Male and Female Athlete of the Year award. Each year, these student-athletes are nominated by and voted upon by Guerin Catholic’s Head Coaches. Female Athlete of the Year Katie Kolb is a three sport athlete and will end her career as one of the most impressive 4 year athletes in Guerin Catholic history, competing in Cross Country, Track and Field and Tennis. She was a top 7 cross country runner for the best 4 year stretch in program history, as the team qualified for the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals 3 out of the last 4 years. In Track and Field, she has been a 4 year varsity runner and holds the school indoor and outdoor records in the 4x800 Meter Relay while qualifying for the State Finals in that same relay during her sophomore year. Just last week at the Hamilton County Track and Field championships, she was part of a 4x800 Meter Relay time that ranked as the 3rd fastest time in the state of Indiana. Finally, in Tennis, she garnered All-Conference, All-District and All-State honors as a sophomore and junior and became the 2nd doubles team in school history to qualify for the State Finals when she and her sister, Anna, advanced to the semifinals of the IHSAA Doubles State Tournament in 2024. Currently, she plays #1 doubles for the top ranked and undefeated Golden Eagles tennis team and the team enters tournament play this week. In addition to an outstanding athletic career, she has also served in a number of leadership roles within the school such as Student Council Officer and Co-President, sophomore and junior retreat leader and a member of Champions Together all while maintaining a 3.9 GPA. ~~~~~~ Male Athlete of the Year Baseball player Tate Troxell is a 4 year varsity letterwinner and has been one of the most dominant athletes in Guerin Catholic history. Over the course of his 4 year career, he has been named multiple times to All-Conference, All-District and All-State teams and was named to this preseason’s IndyStar’s Super Team He has been the central figure of a 4 year run in baseball that has been the best 4 year run in program history - winning 86 games with a few more games left to win this season. His pitching was the key component to last year’s tournament run that resulted in the program’s first ever sectional and regional championships. He will graduate as the school’s all time strikeout leader and has been responsible for winning 24 games with him on the pitching mound over the past 4 years. Last year, his ERA was the lowest ever in school history at 1.00 and his career ERA sits at 1.6. His dominance on the mound can be highlighted by this simple anecdote: This senior will take his talents to the epicenter of college baseball, the Southeastern Conference, where he will play baseball at the University of Alabama.
